For this lesson you will need to select the Sketcher Work Bench. For future reference there are two methods to select a work bench in CATIA V5. As you start CATIA V5 you are prompted by the default method. The term work bench is used generically because the Work Bench icon showing will be the current active work bench. The other method of selecting another work bench is by selecting the Start icon in the top left side of the screen, reference Figure 1.


This will bring up a pull down menu that includes all of the work benches. Double click on the work bench you want to use, in this case the Sketcher Work Bench. It is not possible to use both methods at the same time as shown in Figure 1. This window will contain only the default work benches at the time CATIA V5 was installed. This window can be customized. The Sketcher Work Bench should be included in the default window. The Sketcher Work Bench is a two dimensional planar work area. To use the Sketcher Work Bench you must specify which plane the profile is to be created on. Specifying the plane can be done several different ways. Notice as a particular plane is selected the equivalent plane in the Specification Tree is highlighted.


To do this just select the Plus symbol to the left of the Specification Tree or double click on the branch you want expanded. Select the plane in the Specification Tree and the coordinating plane in the center of the screen will also be highlighted. This option will be covered in more detail later in the book. For this lesson select the ZX plane as shown in Figure 1. The default grid will also appear. NOTE: As mentioned in the introduction, CATIA V5 is Windows compliant. This means that there are several methods available to complete almost every task.


This brings up file tab options on the right side of the screen and file type options on the left Figure 1. From the options on the left select Part, the tabbed options on the right change accordingly. There are four main options under Sketcher; you only need to use two of them at this time, Grid and Sketch Plane. For this particular exercise check the Display option. For this particular exercise check the Snap To option. The user can set the desired spacing. If the default measurement is in metric the spacing will be in mm.


To change this default complete the following steps: 5. This is in the same window as described in Step 5. The window on the screen should now look like Figure 1. For this exercise select inches. Notice the Primary Spacing option is now showing in inches. This option divides the Primary Spacing in divisions defined by you, reference Figure 1. To change the Primary Spacing and the Graduations just select the value in the window and type in the new value. When entering the values for the Primary Spacing it is not necessary to enter the measurement type. The lowest value allowed for Graduations is 1 zero will not be accepted.


For this exercise enter 1 for the Primary Spacing and enter 10 for the CATIA V5 Basic Workbook 1. Select the OK button to apply the Primary Spacing and the Graduations values. The Primary Spacing is represented in the Sketcher Work Bench with a solid line while the Graduations is a dotted line Figure 1. It is important to remember that the zoomed view on the screen will dictate how the Primary Spacing and Graduations are represented. If you are zoomed out, the Graduations and Primary Spacing could look very similar to each other, not distinguishable. If you find yourself in this situation use the Zoom tool on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen Figure 1.


Continue to zoom in until the Primary Spacing and Graduations are distinguishable. The first tool you will use from the Profile tool bar is the Point by Clicking tool , covered in Step 7. The second tool is the Line tool , covered in Steps 8, 9 and The third tool is the Profile tool , covered in Step On the Tools tool bar at the bottom right of the screen make sure the Snap To Point is on highlighted , the Geometrical Constraints is on and the Dimensional Constraints is on Figure 1. With this you are ready to create geometry!

You should be able to locate the 1,1 location using the Primary Spacing and Graduations. To visually verify the location and to Anchor your first two lines to the 1,1 location create a point at the 1,1 coordinate location. To create a point complete the following steps: CATIA V5 Basic Workbook 1. After selecting the Point By Clicking icon the mouse will be accompanied by a Target Selector. This tool allows you to select and snap to a location on the screen. Another way of specifying the location of the point is to type the location in the Point Coordinates: H: and V: boxes.


The H: is for horizontal and V: is for vertical coordinates. Hit the Point 1,1 Tab key to move the cursor over to the Vertical box. Type in 1 for the Vertical Constraints coordinate. Hit the Enter key to have CATIA V5 create the Point 0,0 new point. It will remain highlighted until you make another Figure 1. When you select the Line icon your mouse will be accompanied by a Target Selector.


Using your mouse select Point. The Tools pop up window will also up date to prompt for the end point. If you can use the grid to locate the correct location do so. Click on the grid line intersection 1,2. If you have any doubt where 1,2 is type in the values, using the Tools pop up window. Type in 1 for the H: box and 2 for the V: box. Line 1 should look like the one labeled in Figure 1. Notice: Connecting one entity to another is safer and easier when the Snap To Point icon is on. When the Snap To Point icon is off you must be careful when connecting one entity to another. Both entities must share the same common point. For example, two connected lines, the end point for the first line must be the same exact starting point for the second line.


The lack of a shared point will make the entities unlinked. The entities will not move together. Another problem with the broken link is that it creates an unclosed profile. Unclosed profiles will be covered later in this lesson. The symbol is shown in Figure 1. This will link the two entities together. This is a helpful tool, especially when the Snap To Grid tool is off. Notice: The Tools pop up window gives you more options than the ones covered in Step 8. If you are typing in the information to create a line you have the option of giving Polar Coordinate information. This lesson does not require you to use this option, it could be helpful in the future.


Repeat the same process described in Line 1 Steps 8, except use 1,1 as the Start Point and 2,1 1,1 as the Ending Point. This will create the bottom Line 2 horizontal line as shown in Figure 1. Double clicking on the Line icon will allow you to create multiple lines without being required to repeatedly select the Line icon. With the Line icon double clicked, create line 3, Start Point 2,1. The End Point for line 3 is 2,1. Double clicking on the Line icon still requires you to select a Start Point and an End Point every time, but you will not have select the Line icon for every line. Note: If you make a mistake when creating one of the lines you can use the Undo icon. The Undo icon is located at the bottom of the screen. The Undo tool allows you to undo multiple steps. Another option to a mistake is deleting it. This can be done using the Cut icon also located at the bottom of the screen. Highlight the entity to be deleted then select the Cut icon. The Profile. The connected lines will continue to be created with every point selected until you double click.


Double clicking the Ending Point will end the Profile command. The lines created are separate entities, but the command that created them is recognized as one, so if you select the Undo command all the lines created in one Profile operation will be undone. Create lines 4, 5 and 6 by selecting the following coordinates in succession, select 2,1. The finished profile should look like Figure 1. NOTE: This particular exercise does not require any features with radii but the Profile tool has the ability to create them.


Instead of selecting an End Point and a Starting Point for line creation, select the point where the arc is to begin , hold down the left mouse button and drag it away from the starting point, then release the mouse button. You will notice as you drag the mouse button around the arc radius and location change. Move the mouse around to where you get the radius you want then select that point on the screen. Steps 12 through 16 give instruction on how to use additional tools to modify the entities you have created. In this step you will learn how to break a line. Step 13 will instruct you on how to trim line 6 back to line1.


To break line 6, simply select the Break icon from the Operation tool bar. Select line 6 as shown in Figure 1. The line will highlight then select a location on the line where you want the line broken. For the purpose of this lesson select approximately three Graduation lines from the left end point Figure 1. The line is now broken. This is where renaming the constraints in the previous steps will prove to be beneficial. You should be able to scroll through the Parameters box and identify the constraints you renamed. All the parameters are represented on two separate lines. For this lesson you will use the line that ends with a type of measurement such as Radius, Offset or Length. You will not use the line ending in Activity. For this step, scroll through the Parameters list; verify the constraints you renamed in Step 4 are listed.


Your two selections from the Parameters and Columns boxes will show up in the Associations between parameters and columns box. This means that they were successfully associated. R, R1, etc. will of course be a Radius rather than a Length. The Extrusion Profile sketch has no associative value to the Extrusion Number that was created in the Extrusion Table. You can assign it one by selecting the Extrusion Number in the Columns box. This will bring up the OK Creates Parameters for Selected Lines window as shown in Figure 1. This will create an association of a string type to the Extrusion Number heading. The association will be displayed in the Extrusion Table Active window under the Associations tab along with all the other associations you created in this step. What this really does for you is allows the Specification Tree to show the Extrusion Number. The string of numbers is linked from the specific row in the Extrusion Table.


If you select another row extrusion from the Extrusion Table the Specification Tree will reflect the change just as the solid does. Copyrighted Material NOTE: In order for the parameters to show up in the Specification Tree you must have the Options set correctly. Step 13 will show you how to set the correct options. If you correctly associated the Parameters and Columns, it should look similar to the table shown in Figure 1. If your window looks similar to the one shown in Figure 1. You may wonder what else is different. What did you just accomplish? Step 11 will show you the advantages of what you just accomplished.


Keep in mind that if you move your saved table, it will break the link and you will need to re-link it. To test this, complete the following steps. The data in row 1 is currently the active row. There are several methods to tell which row of data is active. The inactive lines do not have the brackets around it. The existing extrusion will turn red signifying it needs to be updated. This will update your active extrusion to the data contained in row 4. Compare the differences between the extrusion represented in Figure 1. Verify the extrusions with the dimensions in the Extrusion Table design table.


Copyrighted Material NOTE: If your extrusion does not automatically update you will have to select the Update button in the Standard tool bar section to force the solid to update. If you want CATIA V5 to automatically update select Tools, Options, Infrastructure branch, Part Infrastructure branch, General tab, Update section and select the Automatic button. Once you link your Extrusion Table to your CATPart, updating is quite simple. Click on the Extrusion Table in the Specification Tree to bring up the design table. Select the row of data you want to apply to the CATPart and select OK. Be sure to select row 1 Extrusion Number again before moving on to the next step.


Editing the Extrusion Table You now have the Extrusion Table linked to the Joggled Extrusion CATPart. As the previous step demonstrated, creating new extrusions are only a few clicks away. Editing the Extrusion Table design table is just as easy. Modifying the Extrusion Table can be done in CATIA V5 or outside of CATIA V5. To modify the Extrusion Table inside of CATIA V5, complete the following steps. Click on the Edit Table button at the bottom left of the window. Modify the number 2 in row 2 Extrusion Number and column C header B in to a 4. CATIA V5 will notify you that the Extrusion Table has been revised. Select Close to update the link. Select OK to update the Joggled Extrusion CATPart. Your part is now updated to the information edited into the spreadsheet without leaving CATIA V5. You can use this method to add rows of new information, in this case additional extrusion types. You can also delete rows of information.


The second method of revising the spreadsheet is editing the spreadsheet outside of CATIA V5. CATIA V5 will still give you a warning and a chance to accept or reject the revised spreadsheet. Modifying the Existing Joggle Profile Sketch The previous steps showed you how to create, select and automate the creation of different types of extrusions. This was accomplished using a spreadsheet and the Extrusion Profile sketch. The following step will show you how to apply joggle information to the selected extrusion. If joggle information was standardized, you could create a spreadsheet with the required information and apply it to the Joggle Profile sketch as you did to the Extrusion Profile sketch. Joggle information is not standard; it is as varied as the parts and assemblies they are applied to.


With the help of Knowledgeware this process can still be automated by getting information directly from the user in the place of the spreadsheet. Copyrighted Material For this step, revise all the constraints in the Joggle Profile sketch to match the constraints shown in Figure 1. The Joggle Profile sketch controls the joggle of the extrusion. If you want to change the joggle depth, you could go into the Joggle Profile sketch and revise the constraint that controls the depth. Entering the Joggle Profile sketch and modifying all the constraints for every individual part becomes very repetitious and time consuming. The following steps will show you how Knowledgeware can help you automate this process. Automating the Modification Using a Marco This step is similar to what was explained in Step You go through the same steps except that you turn on the Macro Recorder to record everything you do.


To accomplish this, complete the following steps. The first thing you need to remember is to record only what is necessary, other wise you get a lot of information that only complicates the process. This will bring up the Record Macro window as shown in Figure 1. Select CATScript for the Language Used: box. catvbs unless you specify a name. You must also add the. CATScript extension. Adding the extension allows CATIA V5 to save the macro externally not only as a macro but also a CATScript. Make sure you type in the syntax exactly as it is shown.
